MPA Engineering has been pre-qualified by Alberta Transportation to provide bridge related engineering services in all their associated technical categories. This includes bridge inspection, assessments, planning, preliminary engineering, detailed design, tender preparation and construction supervision for site specific installations. MPA Engineering also provides planning services for various clients to develop short and long term capital and maintenance programs.

MPA Engineering has been awarded one of four provincial bridge inspection contracts by Alberta Transportation. These multi-year contracts cover the provision of bridge inspection services for all bridge structures on the primary highway and secondary highway system within the four provincial regions. The contract also includes inspection services for all major bridges on the local road network. With 3 provincially certified Class A bridge inspectors, 6 certified Class B inspectors and other inspectors actively completing training in pursuit of certification, MPA has established a well trained team of technical specialists. Ongoing inspection services are also provided for a number of our municipal and industrial clients.

Similar bridge and culvert inspections are undertaken on behalf of both national and short line railway operators throughout Western Canada. Other railway specific activities include: hydrology studies for replacement structures (both planned and emergency replacement), assessments of alternatives for replacement structures, derailment damage inspections, retaining wall repair, assistance developing bridge maintenance programs, etc. Professional engineering staff are certified to practice in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada.

Aside from bridge and culvert projects, water resource projects have also been completed for several Alberta municipalities with grant funding from Alberta Environment. These projects include flood control, erosion control, surface drainage improvements and/or structure rehabilitation.

MPA Engineering has completed numerous of bridge and bridge culvert construction and maintenance projects. These projects include:

•   Design and construction supervision for replacement bridge
    culverts and bridges including design for fish passage criteria to meet the
    requirements of both federal and provincial regulatory agencies.

•   Specialized bridge culvert rehabilitation with tunnel liners, shotcrete, pipe
    jacking, etc. to cost effectively extend the service life of existing
    installations.

•   Routine maintenance of culverts and bridges

•   Major bridge rehabilitation for highway structures including deck overlays,
    deck joint installations, truss repairs, accident damage repairs, epoxy
    injection, prestressed strand cable repairs, pile repairs, bearing cap
    replacements, etc.

•   Design and construction supervision for short span prestressed concrete
    bridges

•   Construction supervision for major bridge rehabilitation

•   Assessments and hydrology studies on existing structures or for proposed
    installations.
